Art

The Homerton has a wonderful art collection comprising over 600 works. To survive, however, the art project relies largely on donations from individuals and voluntary workers, along with the time and effort of local artists, to expand the collection.

Our current art projects aim to: strengthen our collection through commissions and partnerships with local artists and institutions, further support our art therapy workshops, and breathe life back into outdoor spaces.

Art has been shown to enhance the therapeutic environment, providing welcome comfort and inspiration for patients, staff, and visitors to the Hospital.

As one patient commented: “There are pictures, garden sculptures, splashes of colour or other interesting art works everywhere you turn. They certainly cheer me up when I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself!”

Homerton’s long-standing commitment to promoting art in all aspects of life has been demonstrated over the years in over 30 exhibitions, with some projects involving the British Library, V&A Museum of Childhood, Hackney Museum, and Museum of London.
